Introducing The Gravity Blanket’s Weighted Robe

Grey Gravity Blankets Weighted Robe with Chinese Take Out

When I first heard of the world’s first weighted robe, I was skeptical. A few years back I had bought a cheaper weighted blanket from Amazon, I didn’t like it. In addition, the Modernist X Gravity Blanket Weighted robe comes with a heavy pricetag (pun intended). Luckily, during Amazon’s recent Prime Day, Gravity Blankets had a sale not only on their website but also at Bloomingdales. I took advantage of the Bloomingdale’s sale because I was able to combine with 2 separate Amex Offers for double points and an extra $15 off on top of the sale. Furthermore I was able to use Rakuten Ebates and shoprunner for free two day shipping.

First Impressions

When I opened the robe I was impressed with how soft and plush it was. Definitely a win in my book! I ordered the grey robe and the color was a little different grey than the pictures on the Gravity website. It looks like the Gravity Blankets website is using a filter on their photos to make the robe stand out more. Not a big deal but the grey is less of a stone (light) grey in their photos and more of an elephant grey.

The Weight

When I read about the weighted robe, I read that the 3 pound weight was removable. This is a plus as well, because if you didn’t want to use the weight you wouldn’t have to. Gravity described the weight as being on the neck but as a surprise, the weight actually is about 12-18 inches long and goes across the entire shawl collar. I actually found this enjoyable because the weight is also on your upper chest which I found very calming and comforting. Personally, for massages I don’t like deep pressure or a lot of pressure on my neck so I appreciated that the weight is more spread out. In addition, I like to open the robe up a little and have the weight be more on my shoulders and chest.

The only potential negative is this makes the shawl collar really puffy and it’s impossible to close the top of the robe all of the way. This means that you must wear a shirt or top underneath. But I guess this is just an opportunity to wear some matching pjs underneath 🙂 .

My wish is that Gravity Blankets would’ve been able to find a way to find add some weight to the shoulders.

Gravity Blanket’s Return Policy

The other reason I was wavering in ordering is if you look at Gravity Blanket’s return policy, it’s pretty bad. They make you return in the original packaging and take pictures proving its condition before the return process can start. You also have to pay for return shipping. Luckily, I decided to keep the robe, but buyer beware.

Do I Recommend?

Yes, I recommend the robe but the key things to remember are:

  • The color varies from most of the pictures on the Gravity Blankets websites
  • The robe doesn’t close all of the way (think of this an opportunity to match with cute pjs)
  • The weight is also on the upper chest (I liked this)
  • Gravity Blanket’s strict return policy.

While I can’t guarantee the robe will melt away your stress, the first time I put it on after washing, I dug into some Chinese takeout and was at peace.
